Fantastic Fungi - Can mushrooms save the world?

IJR's World - 12 April 2020

Today, let us celebrate the magic beneath our feet.

About trees, mushrooms, and the power of their amazing union.

When you look outside your window, what do you see? Walls? (I hope not.) Blue Sky? (That would be wonderful.) Unicorns? (I want to take what you did last night!) However, statistically speaking, you'll see a tree. 🌳

Did you know that Mama Earth houses approximately 3 trillion of them? When you look at it, you might see its leaves flattering gently in the wind, maybe a bird resting on its branches, and, if you are lucky, it offers you some flowers to look at, or, in my case, some ripe jackfruits to smell.

Now let me tell you a secret: The tree you see is upside down.

All that you observe above ground is technically its "bum", with his "feet", the branches and the leaves, all up in the air. Why? Because a tree's "brain" is buried deep inside the earth, communicating, nurturing and warning its buddies via an incredible intricate network built by mushrooms, known as the Wood Wide Web. You think I am kidding? Then watch this video:

My husband Kabir and I discovered an amazing documentary about the power of mushrooms, and their relevance for our world, called "Fantastic Fungi - The Magic beneath us". 🍄 It explains beautifully, and with quite trippy imagery (hey hey, back to the unicorns🦄!) , that we are just at the beginning to understand the creatures that are "in-between plants and animals", their incredible intelligence, resilience, and their psychedelic power of healing, e.g. for PTSD and other mental disorders.

Kabir was so kind to put the documentary on Dropbox for a short while - so use the time and get your mind blown... maybe you end up upside down just like the trees! 🤸‍♀️ 🌲🌺

Wishing you a lovely Sunday!

With love from Goa,
Isabelle 🌿
