Is it just a phase? Thoughts about the Flower Moon
Good morning Moon-ey Toons! 🌝
Are you ready for tonight? 🧚♀️
When the day turns to night, and the sun merely reflects her light onto the floating surfaces around her, we will be able to witness the last Super Moon of 2020 – and trust me, it’s a powerful one! 🌝
As all living beings are made of water, we are highly influenced by the behaviour of the moon. If it can make entire oceans move, how can we debate its impact on the mere 50 litres of fluids that make up our bodies? Our dog Rexy and our cat Fifi are no exceptions. Last night, for instance, they already went a bit ‘lunatic’ (a word deriving its meaning from the Latin ‘lunaticus’, meaning: ‘moonstruck’), and decided that 2 am is a wonderful time to have a play party in the bedroom. How pawsome! 🐾
Look up, not back.
We humans always have looked up to seek answers from the sky. May it be the formation of the clouds that tell us the perfect time for harvest; the interpretation of constellations for predicting the grander schemes of life; or, if you are Elon Musk, the dream of traveling through space and time. In addition, stargazing is said to free you from all kinds of mental miseries, making us humble, quiet, and connected in return.
The internet, however, is full of theories that the moon isn’t actually what we think it is. May it be a secret space station – or why has nobody ever gone back since the first moon landing in 1969? -, a hideout for extra-terrestrial alien races, or simply a lit-up surface that floats above the flat earth, one point remains: No other astronomical body has sparked the human imagination more than this 4.5 billion year old ball.
Are you a Selenophile?*
In Ancient times, our tribal forefathers and mothers kept track of time by observing the change of seasons and the phases of the moon. The name “Flower Moon” thus symbolises a sea of plants that come into bloom in May, making the Earth burst with life, growth, beauty and endless possibilities – just like us. 🌺
It also coincides with ‘Vesak’ marking Buddha’s enlightenment, and emphasizing the long recognition of the moon’s significance as a symbol of enlightenment. The word ‘moon’ itself can be traced back to Old English, where it is derived from the Germanic word ‘menon’, meaning ‘month’ (and not to be confused with ‘mooning’, the act of irreverently displaying one's bare buttocks). 🤗
In more spiritual terms, a full moon stands for bringing out the hidden, darker aspects of life to light, and therefore is a symbol of release, personal growth and transformation (for instance, if you felt a bit shaken over the last couple of days, now you know the reason). So why not use the opportunity tonight and dive into the Flower-Moon-magic under a pollution-free sky (yipiiiehh!)? 🤸♂️
Stay wild, moon child.
Take some time tonight, sit, if possible, on the earth itself, and observe the moon. How does it look? How does it feel? Bath in its power, soak in its light, and inhale its majestic vibe. Or just wave to the aliens – they anyway will soon make contact! 🤗
The time has come to bring those goals and dreams of yours to life. Just like the flowers that today’s Super Moon is named after, which will blossom into their full potential and beauty regardless of anyone watching. We can do the same - If we look up, and focus on the light instead of all the darkness.
